Finding Hidden Gems in Cinema

Now a days we have countless number of TvShows, Movies in OTT and it’s not hard to find any topic based on our liking

With aggressive development in Machine learning, AI we do see OTT providers adopting this to provide good recommendations based on our views

One Movie I would like to bring focus on is movie namely Mallesham. Being regional movie and not attracted many votes, its placed in the least probable place of “Most watched Movies”

Initially I was hesitant to watch this one as I wasn’t aware that its based on true story

A Tale of Struggle and Innovation

Story is about weaver families living in village and difficulties that they endured in producing the Silk sarees with its unique enticing art

  • Movie is focused on this kid namely Mallesh who since his childhood had witnessed close relatives death because of not able to pay debts and his mother hardships in working out the art on the Silk Sarees

  • His curious mind encounters some ideas to prepare machine that can replace heavy manual labor involved in  weaving threads

  • Even in building up the machine that turns out to be his dream project he had to encounter many debacles in the form of finance, faith & ultimately losing confidence in himself

All these factors force him to resign his dream project but family support and timely intervention extended by many people will see through in completion of his dream project

I have not watched TED Talk given by him but in the credits part, small clip of his talk delivered in Hyderabad where he shares his problems, challenges in coming up with design of the machine

Not being satisfied, he in turn had come up with many Modifications & Prototypes where he without any knowledge of Electronics subject studied necessary concepts required for his Prototypes and built the machine. He also has won Padma Shree Award in recognition of his contribution to arts

There are many people like Mallesham who with their perseverance certainly stood as good example in their own field but unfortunately in Indian Diaspora Cinema its very hard to have small segment of films based on their stories rather we are too focussed on movies about irrelevant stars having history of heavy wrongdoings
